Prof. Rajeev Sangal's research interests in Natural Language Processing(NLP) are in the areas of natural language parsing, tree banking, and machine translation. He has combined novel computational grammatical models with machine learning to achieve interesting results in parsing of free word order langauges. He also looks at knowledge representation and linking it with grammatical representation. He has also developed a software architecture for NLP in general and machine translation in particular.

The information available online and in digital format is growing rapidly and we often run into information overload problem - Making information accessible is a key challenge we are working on. Information Access (IA) require many technologies including Information Retrieval (IR), Information Extraction (IE), automatic summarization, question answering, multi-lingual information access, machine translation etc. The information sources we are currently focusing on are the text documents from the web and enterprise environment.
