EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH CENTRE (IIIT Hyderabad)


Present day science education draws concepts an examples from idealized situations largely divorced from everyday experiences, thus making science seem "esoteric" and barirer fora child's comprehension.

Research in this center is focused at addressing this problem with the aim to improving the quality of science education in general and in rural ares specifically, by taking into accound the local idion and language. Developing IT resources for science education is the thrust of the work in the center.

Current work falls in two major areas: multimedia content and virtual lab development, and authoring tool development. In the first area, content development inmultiple Indian languages is being carried out for distribution as digitized knowledge packages. An interactive virtual lab is also being developed to supplement learning through hands-on experiments. Work ithe second are is aimed at training and enabling teachers to create multimedia teaching resources and virtual lab modules.
