Cryptography and Network Security (C&NS - 2005)

Background

With major thrust in education in computer science and engineering for expanding Information Technology
applications in India, there is an immediate need to improve the skills of students in `Cryptography and
e-Security' area for meeting the need of IT Industry and e-Government applications. Keeping in view  the need, from
the current academic year a special programme on `Cryptography and Network Security' has been incorporated in the
curriculum of JNTU Engineering Colleges, as a compulsory course for the students.


Objective

The objective of one week intensive programme for teaching faculty is to cover essentials of Cryptography and
Network Security, needed for imparting efficient education to the student community.

Participation

The programme would be open to all faculty particularly, to Computer Science and IT Faculty in JNTU and Osmania
University Engineering Colleges, who are required to run a semester course for their students. The first course
will be restricted to 20 participants as it will involve exercises and laboratory facilities.

Programme Schedule

It is proposed to cover the key concepts, as per the recommended text book (Cryptography and Network Security by
Williams Stalling, PHI). A tentative one week schedule (05 full day residential) is attached herewith as appendix
for your information.

Faculty

Prof V Ch Venkaiah from IIIT, Hyderabad will be the overall in-charge, with faculty drawn from other leading
organizations like CMC, ASCI and IDRBT. Programme Coordinator: Maj Gen (Retd.) Dr R K Bagga AVSM, Advisor -
Outreach Division.


Date & Venue

The programme is scheduled to be conducted from 27 June to 01 July, 2005 on full time basis (0800-1900hrs) in the
Seminar Hall of IIIT, Gachibowli, Hyderabad.


Tuition Fee

The five day programme is being offered as a social obligation by IIIT faculty at a nominal charges of Rs.2500
(Rupees Two Thousand Five Hundred Only) per participant for full duration of the programme. The fee covers all the
expenditure for conduct, as well as residential accommodation, including boarding and lodging at IIIT Campus.

Priority

The seats will be allotted to the faculty nominated by the Principal/HOD of their respective colleges who are
actually involved in teaching the topic of `Cryptogra;viphy and Network Security'. Since the capacity of this first
programme is limited to 20 seats, and will be allotted on first-cum-first service basis.
