Building science is a  field of study concerned with the technical performance of buildings, building materials, and building systems. In this, scientific and engineering approaches are used to learn about and improve the quality of buildings. Recently building science has expanded into how the building performs in providing inhabitable space. The area is broad and has applications of mechanical, electrical, computer, material, architecture, civil, physics,  structures and other areas of engineering and sciences. IIIT’s programs in IT in building science concentrate on development and usage of IT tools for designing energy efficient, comfortable, safe and cost effective buildings. 

The MS degree offered is an academic degree emphasizing course work and supervised independent research in various  areas of study such as:

  • Building control and diagnostics

    • Building Automation & IT Infrastructure 

    • Advanced environmental control devices for buildings and space applications

    • Remote supervision of intelligent buildings and of building automation systems 

    • Real- time systems in automation 

    • Wireless measurement and control of indoor environment in buildings

    • Energy and Environmental issues in design 

  • Computer graphics for physical performance 

    • Visualization of light and sound 

    • IT tool development for construction sector

Admission criterion
Selection for admission to the programme is based on multiple indices. They include: qualification - graduate degree in architecture or any relevant branch of engineering; performance in the entrance exam conducted by the institute; Sound domain knowledge; Inclination to do independent research in a multi-disciplinary environment.
