EERC announces two separate short term courses in Earthquake Engineering for students and faculty members & professionals.

COURSE 1 : EARTHQUAKE DISASTERS IN INDIA :  Role of a Civil Engineer               

 

Prerequisites: Good understanding of mathematics, mechanics, structural analysis and design.

Eligibility: Final year students and fresh graduates

Fee:  Rs. 1,500 (including accommodation and food)

Duration: (24th - 26th Sep 2004)

Timings: 1st day 02:00 PM to 06:00 PM

2nd and 3rd day 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM

 

Course Outline: This course introduces students to structural engineering and highlights the importance of earthquake resistant design. The course covers the following topics:

  • Civil Engineering: An overview of construction practices

  • around the world

  • Introduction to Earthquake Engineering & Structural

  • Dynamics

  • Need for Computer Applications

  • Finite Element Method

  • Basics of Earthquake Resistant Design

  • Indian Standards: IS 456 and IS 1893

 

 

COURSE 2 : EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT DESIGN OF STRUCTURES

 

Prerequisites: Good understanding of mathematics, mechanics, structural analysis and design.

Eligibility: Practicing Civil Engineers and Faculty members

Fee: Rs. 3,000 (including accommodation and food)

Duration: (8th - 10th Oct 2004)

Timings: 1st day : 02:00 PM to 06:00 PM

2nd and 3rd day : 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM

 

Course Outline: This course, intended for practicing engineers and faculty members highlights the following topics:

  • Introduction to Earthquake Engineering (Seismology)

  • Damaging effects of earthquakes

  • Vibration of single degree of freedom systems

  • Vibration of multi-degree of freedom systems

  • Lateral load analysis

  • Concept of earthquake resistant design

  • How to use IS 1893:2002
