- IIIT, Hyderabad is a nonprofit Research University, founded in 1998, under the Public Private Partnership model, and is the first IIIT to be set up in India.

- All programs, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral, are fully residential.
- IIIT-H offers, even for the undergraduate students, research led curricula that encourage them to participate in the ongoing research projects. As a result, students get to do a large number of research projects, and thus bring to employers deep research orientation and innovative mindset.
- Currently, six years after launching the postgraduate programs, IIIT-H has over 85 PhD and 360 MS by Research students pursuing research in various areas of computing and IT.
