Details:

Different utilities have different tariff structures for different categories of consumers. Some organizations such as Consumer Organizations, Electric Regulatory Commissions, etc., would like to compare the tariffs of different utilities. They would also like to compare the tariff among different categories of consumers within a utility. Students of IIIT Hyderabad had already developed a software prototype (as a part of the course on ‘IT for Power’) that calculates the billing for different categories of consumers for DISCOMs of Andhra Pradesh based on tariff order released by APERC for the period of 2004-05. This prototype also provides facility to compare the Tariff among various categories of consumers within the utility.

Prayas, a non-governmental, non-profit, public charitable trust registered in India, and located at Pune, has shown interest in having a tool which can provide comparison of tariff of various categories of consumers across different utilities.

In this project it is proposed to develop a tool entitled ‘Tariff Watch’ which facilitates comparison of tariff of different utilities and to compare tariff of different consumers within an utility, with support from Prayas.
