R & D Showcase 2004

R & D Showcase 2004 is the third annual research & development exhibition showcasing prominent work done at the Institute. The exhibits are winnowed out from a multitude of undertakings covering diverse domains such as Bioinformatics, Communications, Computer Aided Structural Engineering, Data Engineering, Education & Entertainment, IT in Building Sciences, Language Technologies, Networking, Robotics, VLSI & Embedded Systems and Visual Information Technologies.

Bioinformatics

 

The activities in Bioinformatics include the utilization of analytical and computational tools, databases and software for the management, analysis and visualization of experimental data (in Tera Bytes) generated in the areas of contemporary genetics and molecular biology.

·          Ab-initio quantum mechanical studies on the stabilities of non WC base pairs in Nucleic acids.

Computer Aided Structural Engineering (CASE)

 

Research in CASE aims at developing and spreading the use of IT for the betterment of the buildings in terms of products, processes and performances. Buildings constructed using this technology will have a combination of traditional and advanced materials with intelligent controls. Their design will concentrate on total performance over their life cycle, using computer-aided techniques.

Data Engineering

 

Data Engineering deals with storage, management, retrieval, dissemination, knowledge discovery, and automatic processing of data. The term data is used in its broadest sense including structured, relational, object-oriented, and semi structured XML data, text/marked up documents, genome data, contract documents, manuals and scientific literature spread within an organization or across the world-wide web.

Information Technology finds extensive applications in education and entertainment. We focus on building tools and content for primary and rural education. We are also working towards developing open source high performance games.

IT in Building Science

 

We aim at developing and spreading the use of IT for the betterment of the buildings in terms of products, processes and performances. These make buildings affordable, energy efficient, comfortable, healthy, safe and responsive to inhabitants. They will have a combination of traditional and advanced materials with intelligent controls.  Their design will concentrate on total performance over their life cycle, using computer-aided techniques taking into consideration factors such as wind, noise, solar energy, pollutants and occupancy.

Language Technologies

 

Language Technologies address the complex problems of understanding and processing natural languages such as English, Hindi and Telugu. Some of the important application areas include Machine Translation, Speech Processing, Information Extraction, etc.

Robotics

 

The focus of the Robotics research in IIIT centers on creating a low-cost, reliable mobile robot platform to be used in educational research. The goal is to build a family of general purpose collaborating robots which utilize low-cost sensors, off-the-shelf components and computing platforms.

Visual Information Technologies

 

Visual Information Processing relates to generation, processing and understanding of visual data. Broadly, this area covers computer graphics, image processing and multimedia systems.

·          Document Image Understanding OCRs, Indexing and retrieval of digitized documents, etc. for Indian and other languages.

·          Computer Graphics: Visualization of large environments on different devices, Terrain visualization, etc.

·          Computer Vision: Mixed real-virtual environments, Multiview Recognition, Mosaicing, iometrics

·          Multimedia Systems: Video summarization, Content-based access of images.

·          Miscellaneous: Large and small projects involving image processing, graphics, games, etc

 

 

VLSI & Embedded Systems

 

Embedded systems deal with design of embedded hardware and software for real time applications. VLSI systems focus on integrated circuit design, synthesis and testing.
