IIIT HYDERABAD TO HOST TWIN INTERNATIONAL EVENT ON NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

 

The International Conference on Natural Language Processing (ICON-2004) and International Conference on Knowledge Based Computer Systems (KBCS-2004) will be held concurrently during December 19-22, 2004. Hosted by International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT) in collaboration with Centre for Development of Advance Computing (CDAC), the Conferences are intended to act as a forum for promoting interaction among researchers in the field of Natural Language Processing and Artificial Intelligence in India and abroad. The conferences will have three days of technical sessions and a day of pre-conference tutorials on December 19, 2004 and will be attended by over 300 delegated from India and abroad.

 

The Conference will be inaugurated by internationally renowned Professor Raj Reddy of CMU USA on Monday, 20 December 2004 at Hotel Kakatiya Key Note address will be given by Prof Martin Kay of Stanford University USA. Prof Arvind K Joshi of University of Pennsylvania, Prof PVS Rao Tata Info Tech and Dr J C Mohanty IAS, Principal Sectary in Department of Communications and Information Technology will also address over 300 delegates, likely to participate.

TECHNICAL SESSIONS and CONTRIBUTED PAPERS

 

 

 

82 High Quality Contributed papers from various participants around the globe have been selected for main conference presentation and 9 papers from various participants have been selected for poster session.    

              

NLP Tools Contest, which will be conducted in the afternoon/evening at IIIT during the conference. This year the theme is Information Extraction and the Domain is “field sports”. Student Paper Contest will be held on 21 Dec 2004 where selected papers will be presented for the final round of evaluation in the following two tracks:

 

Track I. NLP Formalisms and Technologies, Statistical, Knowledge-based and Hybrid Methods, Linguistic and Computational Issues in Languages. Development and Standardization of Lexical Resources, Application areas - Machine Translation, Information Extraction, Dialogue etc.

 

Track II. Speech Synthesis, Speech Recognition and Handwriting Recognition.

We have received good response from the students all over India and also abroad for the above student. Prizes will be awarded in each track for up to two papers based on original work carried out. 

 

Indian Researchers and Student community will benefit from the deliberations with international expert in the area of Natural Language Processing and Artificial Intelligence. IIIT Hyderabad, under guidance of Dr Rajeev Sangal has been responsible for major research initiative in the area of Natural Language Translation from English to Hindi, Telugu and Marathi; which will be presented in the Conferences
